Francis (Frank) Coates III was born in Washington DC to parents Pastor Francis Coates II and Gloria Coates. He started playing the piano at age 5 and studied at Suitland High School for the Performing Arts. He studied music composition and education at University of the Arts in Philadelphia and graduated from University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2008. He later earned his Master of Business Administration from University of Maryland University College in 2016.
Frank started his career in music education working for Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia serving as Music Coordinator. In 2010, he left the museum to start a mobile music education company, Learn Listen Play (LLP). Frank has performed at popular music venues throughout the country such as the Kimmel Center, Merriam Theatre, and Kennedy Center. In 2009,Frank worked with Director Marcus Thomas on the film “Casting Notice” which was recognized by multiple film festivals around the country. In 2010, he was commissioned by the Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet to compose a 30-minute orchestral piece for Choreographer Kjara Staric. Although he enjoys composing multiple genres of music, Frank specializes in contemporary and jazz orchestration.
Frank married the love of his life, Rachel, in 2011 and they have two children.
